In this year’s annual review, we see how Salford PCT used data analysis to improve administration systems and increase uptake in invitation acceptances; we focus on a laboratory in the South West that has been helping to shape the future of cervical screening; we review the new City & Guilds accreditation for cytologists; we provide an update on the latest developments within HPV testing; and we gain an insight into the screening programme through the experience of a patient.
2007 closed with the publication of the Cancer Reform Strategy. This throws major challenges to the Cervical Screening Programme to change its operating patterns and move from essentially the model it started with in the latter half of the 20th century, to a 21st century way of working, taking advantage of developments in technology and delivering a modern service young women will accept and return to. This is an exciting prospect for the next few years.
