In this year’s annual review we remember the last twenty years and hear from Dr Amanda Herbert who has worked in cytology since 1982. She describes the trials and achievements she has seen since the inception of the Screening Programme and highlights the value cervical screening has brought to women.
2008 saw the completion of the Liquid-Based Cytology (LBC) roll-out across the country. LBC has had a significant effect on the Screening Programme. We now have the lowest number of inadequate tests ever, so fewer patients need to be re-screened and the system is more efficient, reducing the patient’s anxiety while waiting for results. Earlier turnaround times lead to faster diagnosis and quicker treatment where necessary.
